This blog is a brief glimpse into the crazy and sometimes abnoraml world of my family.

Here's a picture of D that I couldnt resist posting. He is trying to pretend like he doesnt know I am taking his picture.. LOL

Thompsontown 250th Anniversary

Yesterday we also visited Thompsontown which is where my parents and some of my other family live. They were celebrating their 250th anniversary with all kinds of cool activited, a parade and a reanactment of the civil war. It was nice. Here are some pictures of the kids at the parade.

More House Pics

I won't post the rest. If you want to see them all you can go to my Flickr Page and I uploaded them all on there. The coolest thing happened when I was walking around the yard. I walked around the side of the house to get a picture of the front when I heard this rustling in the tall grass (that definitely needs to be cut).. and up poped a doe. She looked at me, snorted a few times then ran down into the woods. I was very impressed, we didn't even move in yet and already we have seen deer. This place is amazing. Only four more days till we start the move!

House Pictures

Ok, so I finally made it up to the new house to take a few pictures. They are a little *blah* looking since it was starting to rain, and the grass is high since it hasn't been cut in about a month, but you'll get the general idea.

Please Please Keep your dogs on a leash

This is seriously my biggest pet peeve ever. I have dogs, I would love to let them run free. But I don't.. because there are other people with other dogs around. or kids.. or anything else that might possibly distract a dog. So yesterday we were down at City Island with the dogs. We took them down to the river so that Bandit could swim around a bit. There was a guy there with his dog off a leash. So of course the dog came running over to Bandit. (I will mention here that the guy didn't even try to call his dog back) Bandit was not agressive with him, although I did notice that he immediatley placed himself between the other dog and the kids, which I was ultimately proud of. I mean you have dogs for compansionship but you would like to know that ultimately if something happened they would protect you or your kids. Right?
Ok, so anyway.. Bandit was trying to smell the other dog, and was on the leash, so I was not letting him really have any room to get closer to the dog, in fact I was slowly bringing him closer to me. Well to make a long story short the other dog backed into the stroller, and it scared him. Which caused him to yelp and run back to him owner. The owner of the other dog immediately began asking his dog if he was ok. I was genuinely pissed at this point. Why can't people just realize that they make dog leash laws for their safety and our safety as well as for the safety of the dogs.... I really hate irresponsible pet owners..

Kids say the darnest things

Last night Olivia and I were laying in bed, relaxing and trying to stay cool. I was on the computer trying to get some last minute work done for today. She looked at me as serious as could be and said, Mom, whats a nipple.

To tell you the truth the question threw me completely off. Not that I think that a nipple is an awful horrible thing, or a bad word. It is just a strange word coming from the mouth of your 6 year old.

So I asked her, what do you think it is?

Well, she said as serious as could be, isn't it the thing that is on your chin, like Riley has... ?
It took me a minute to completely understand what she thought it was.. and then I spent the next few seconds biting my lip trying not to laugh.

No honey, I answered her, that's a dimple. Boy, kids are hilarious the way they comprehend things sometimes..

So, tonight we are walking on City Island ( a very nice island with activties, parks, the river etc. It is also home to Commerce Park home of the Harrisburg Senators. ) On the island there is a cow (Last year Harrisburg went through this whole thing where an artist created different cows to be displayed around the city, then they auctioned them off for charity. They called it the Cow Parade) So Olivia and Hailey see the cow and immediately run over to where it is. They are looking closely at it when they notice that it has udders. Olivia immediately exclaims "Hey Look gutters!" Her dad and I laughed so hard.. She is hilarious. Even people nearby who heard were laughing. My kids never cease to amaze me.

Riley is either starting his terrible twos or they are getting more terrible. He has been rotten the last few days. I mean you can look right at him tell him not to do it, he just smiles at you and does it anyway. Last night we were all sitting down trying to watch Seabiscut (which by the way was a fantastic movie! I didn't think I would like it at all, which is why I put off seeing it for so long. But I was proven wrong and very impressed) So anyway we are trying to watch the movie. Riley was playing with the firetruck that made noise. He refused to put it away or go somewhere else to play with it so that we could hear the TV. Finally we had to just take it from him. He wasn't happy until we gave it back to him (minus the batteries!) I should know what to expect from him since I have been through this stage with the other two.. but he is just acting out more then they did. Somtimes I have no idea what to do with him!

Moving UGH!!

So last night I herded all the kids to the basement with an array of boxes, packing tape etc. I told them to go through everything that was theirs and get rid of any toys, broken or not, that they didn't want any longer. They all ran to the toy corner of the basement and quickly and quietly (if you can believe that one) started going through things. Eventually Riley came over dragging a garbage bag bigger then he was. He said that he was ready to move. Its funny how kids can look at such a small section of their lives..

Everything is hopefully coming together this week. We are getting more and more anxious as the days pass. Only two weeks now.

Monday, July 25, 2005

Well the weekend went great.. Which was good, because after the week I had.. I truly needed it.
Saturday morning consisted of grocery shopping, which I always hate to do, but someone needs too. Although even this time wasn't to bad, in and out. We spent the majority of the morning listening to Hailey talk about how excited she was about going to the races the night before. She had a fantastic time and even got to meet a ton of race car drivers, including the one and only Tony Stewart who was there watching the number 20 outlaw car that he owns. She was very happy about that, and spent the majority of the weekend talking about it.
Saturday afternoon we all cleaned and attempted to get some things ready for the big move in two weeks, although what actually happened was we all laid down and took a big family nap.. It was way to long since the last time I had one of those LOL.
Saturday night D went to the races again and I went out with the 'girls' for a friends birthday. We went to the Harrisburg Hardware Bar and saw the Screaming Daisies. They are two girls and three guys who play dance cover songs. They were really good. The girls and I had a fantastic time dancing and hanging out.. it is nice to do that once and a while.

Sunday D and I took a trip up to the new house and just walked around for awhile. I cannot wait to get moved and settled.. Everything is absolutely perfect there. Sunday night we went to a picnic at the his mothers, it was her birthday. So all in all it was a busy, yet low key weekend for everyone. I got caught up on my sleep.. spend family time and all is well.

Girls Night Out

I would like to start by giving a shoutout to Monica over at the blog Pieces of Us for inspiring me to spend a little bit of 'girl' time with my girls. Ok, so tonight it was only one of them, but D was spending some Daddy time with Hailey at the World of Outlaw race. He is a little bit of a racing junkie, which is ok since we live so close to so many speedways. I was going to go with him but knew that the little Monkey (Riley) would not possibly sit still for an entire race. So, I took Monkey to my mother in laws and Olivia and I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I knew that I wanted to see it, but had heard so many mixed reviews about it from friends I wasn't really sure if I would like it or not.. I especially wasn't sure if Livi would like it. But it was excellent, definitely a five star movie in my book. There was some definite adult humor, but nothing so terribly ranchy that the kids picked up on it.. and there was also some great kid humor. Olivia spent most of the time laughing at the Ompa Loompas.. They were hilarious. She was a little weirded out by Willy Wonka, who was portrayed as very strange. Johnny Depp was amazing. Maybe even more so then Gene Wilder in the first movie from 1971 which although a classic is still one of my faves.
The good news is Livi and had a great time. It was nice girl bonding time. I am going to have to start making regular time for girls nights out.. With Hailey too.

In other good news, the final offer was signed sealed and accepted today on our house. We are so super excited to get everything in order and move. Although the anticipated move date is only two weeks away, it can't come to quickly. I am excited to just be able to have room to run and garden and let the kids play. I will definitely take pics soon as post them so that everyone can see. Although I hate moving with a passion, I have found that moving so frequently has kept me completely organized with everything.. So it hasn't been all bad. The kids are also looking forward to going to back to their original babysitter, Marie, who was almost like a surrogate grandma to them. So everything is coming together slowly.. and cross your fingers that the weekend goes better then the week did.

Monday all week

For those of you who may have possibly read how my Monday went this week.. well today was just as rotten. In fact it seems like it has most certainly been Monday everyday this week. Only one worse then the next. So this morning I get up, hussle the kids to get dressed get everything together, ready and in the van.. then the van won't start. Fantastic. Well, it was only 7:15 and the kids were going to my mother in laws.. so I thought that if I called her, and got a ride from her then I could be to work on time and she could just take the kid with her. Well she didn't get here until 8:15, traffic was horrible. So I was about 25 minutes late for work which just seemed to throw off my already crazy and busy day.
At 5:00 I left work with the intention on getting the kids, making a pit stop at the grocery store and heading home Early! Yeah right! traffic was horible.. It was storming really bad and there was water over the road way every way I tried to get there.. I took about 10 different detours.. it stunk. To make matters worse, it was hot, rainy and yucky.
I picked up the kids and was getting out some money to pay my mother in law for somethings, when I dropped a 20 dollar bill. No sooner had I dropped the money, when their dog Winston came out of no where and ate it.. Yes, you heard me right.. he ate it.. chewed it up and swallowed it.. So I suppose the old saying, the dog ate my homework can actually be true in some cases.
On the way home we stopped at Walmart which actually went well, considering the kids were completely wound up.. I was supposed at how well behaved they actually were.
So I bought them a movie. Actually its a rather old movie, but I would have to say was one of my faves when I was younger. Its Little Monsters , although a kids movie, and not an oscar winner by any means, it was nice to see it again. Back in the day of big hair and jelly shoes I was a crazy Fred Savage fan (cmon who didn't watch The Wonder Years) It was just nice to see it.. and it really is a good movie. .Plus I thought that since Hailey seems to be going through this 'I am scared of monsters' stage that it might help. Although there are bad monsters in the movie, it portrays most monsters as friends.. Hopefully it helped.. the spray bottle of monsters away spray hasn't nessacarily been doing the trick lately.

Also happening this week to make it completely miserable. My grandmother fell and broke her hip. I am happy to report though that she had surgery today and is in her room doing well. So that is a huge relief.
Plus, we made a few final adjustments to the counter offer to our counter offer for the new house and submitted to them our FINAL offer. We told them we need an acceptance or non acceptance by 5 pm on Friday. So keep your fingers crossed.. It seems that everyone has been having a rough week this week.... Well tomorrow is Friday, and hopefully it can only get better from here!

Movies

Has there been any kids movies that your kids love so much that they watch them over and over and over (shall I go on) again... ok, so my kids watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang you know the really old Disney movie with Dick Van Dyke..
I have gotten to the point of madness with that movie. They watch it every single day, sometimes twice a day. I have gotten to the point where I know the movie word for word.. and can sing the songs from memory.. In fact I hear the songs in my sleep..
Kids are hilarious

Don't you just hate Mondays

So yesterday was destined for disaster right from the moment I woke up. Our babysitter was unable to babysit yesterday so I was originally supposed to take them to my mother in laws. I decided though that instead of running 30 minutes out of the way that I would just wait for D to get home around 9 am and go to work. So I got to sleep in a little (ok so it was still 7 am when I got up but to me, that is sleeping in!) and got showered and ready for work. At 9:00 I called D and he still hadn't left the firehouse! I was fuming. I know it wasn't him fault but it completely through me off. So I hustled everyone to get dressed, fed them and then ran them to my mother in laws..
Work was even more hectic then the morning. I had meeting after meeting.. worked until 630 and still had about three hours worth of work to do when I left! It was horrible and crazy. I also got what I thought was going to be the sales contract for our new house via fax! But to my dismay it wasn't the sale contract, it was a counter offer to our counter offer! Boy was I pissed... I countered the counter and faxed it back immediatley giving them 48 hours to respond. I know that we love this house but this is not worth it.. I almost feel like they are attempting to screw us, but since I work in real estate I am definitely not about to let that happen. So we called the sellers and left a message last night, we haven't heard anything so they better be not calling because they are discussing how they could get sued for telling us verbally that the offer was accepted, cashing out deposit check, and then attempting to counter our offer.. seriously WTF!

So then when I finally did get home I opened the front door, and immediately wanted to turn around close it, get back in the car and go back to work. The house was total chaos.. Riley was screaming and sitting on the counter bleeding all over the counter and floor. D was trying to help him.. Hailey was crying and had a huge scratch down her cheek. I figured they were related incidents, but later (when everything settled) came to find out that they were completely seperated. Riley was sitting on the dog when the dog got up it threw him off and he smacked his nose off the floor and got a bloody nose. Hailey was scratch earlier by Riley, after she took something from him. Supper wasn't ready, the house was a mess and both the dogs were carrying on. I realize that you couldn't possibly picture this craziness, but then again I don't think you want too!
So when I finally fell into bed a little before 11:00 I think my eyes might have shut before my head even hit the pillow!

Other Random Camping Pics

The kids had such a great time camping.. In fact Riley spent the majority of the time completely dirty, marshmallow covered and searching for bugs.

Camping Fun

So Friday started off completely hectic because we were offered the chance to go to a friends cabin for the weekend. So we had to pack, board the dogs and get to the grocery store in about an hour.. It made for an interesting afternoon. We finally left around 5 pm but everyone was excited at the prospect of just getting away for the weekend. We headed to Ricketts Glen state park with high hopes, the only problem was that we had no idea where we were going, only the general direction. So although it took us about three hours to make the 90 minute trip, we did finally make it. The cabins were amazing. And boy, don't the kids look like they were having a fabulous time! LOL..
The weekend was good and uneventful, the way a weekend away should be. It rained most of the weekend, but we did get some good hotdogs cooking time over the fire.. Made smores on Friday night and even got to swim in the lake for a little bit on Saturday afternoon. Saturday evening D had to leave to go to work on Sunday so my mom, brother and his dorky friend Ethan came up.. We took the kids fishing at the lake, which they enjoyed, until they realized that they would rather splash and play in the water then actually fish in it. The kids got nice and dirty and loved every minute of it.

Saturday night we stayed up most of the night playing poker, the kids just layed and watched DVD's.. We did at one point attempt to start a camp fire but everything was so wet that all we did was dry out the wood and smoke up the place. The cabins were amazing and modern, we even had our own bathroom, and a microwave. I don't know that I have ever camped quite like that before.
So below are just some random pics of our camping experience.

Everyone had a good time and it was great to finally get away for a little bit. Though we were glad to get back and the dogs were very happy to see us.. The kennel guy said that Tiller moped around the entire time he was there.. Poor Puppy!

So when we came home on Sunday my mom, brother, Ethan, Livi, Riley and hailey as well as me all drove home with all our camping stuff, in one mini-van.. This is pretty much how is looked.

I don't even think you can see the kids in there!

Hot car

So Riley has started this new things.. Ok so actually I think that hailey started it. whenever they see a sportcar they all say.. 'Thats a hot hot car' .. its adorable. As adorable as him telling people that his name is Monkey Danger Pratt... which is super funny. And now he has started talking in third person.. "thats monkey's cup"... who knows where they get these things...

Thursday, July 14, 2005

I am sitting here outside of my daughters speech therapists office attempting to be efficient and getting some work and calls made, but instead thought that this would be a great time to get some blogging done. I stopped at home today to pick up Hailey for her speech therapy appointment and the kids were watching the Disney movie “Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang” Now for anyone who may have seen it they know that it is a kids movie with music and singing. For some reason of ALL of the Disney movies, my kids like this one the best and insist on watching it everyday numerous times. Honestly I could probably recite it by heart and I am not even a huge fan. But Riley is just so darn cute when he asks if he can watch it.. How could I possibly say no.

Also, we got the call last night.. the one we have been waiting for. We got the house.. and boy are we so happy.. I know we move a ton but I think part of it is just that we haven’t found “the” house yet. A house that we have completely and absolutely loved, one that has everything that we want in a house. But I think that this house is perfect and may possibly be the first time in a long time I have actually been excited about moving. So the house is 4 bedroom, 2 FULL bath.. (full baths.. one even has a whirlpool tub!) a family room, a florida room and 4.5 acres! That’s the beauty of the whole thing. It sits about ½ a mile off the main road and you can’t even see the house from the road.. Its amazing and one of the most beautiful properties I have ever seen! The kids are even excited but Livi is a little disappointed that she has to switch schools again. And for that I feel horrible, but this house is OUR house and we are so excited. I think that deep down livi is actually excited too.. She keeps asking if we can buy a pool. Funny how kids work huh? Buy then something and they will be happy forever.

So the only bad things about moving is that we are moving the second week in August. Which is technically our vacation week but buying a house on our budget requires us to use our vacation money. The kids don’t seem to mind and we have told them that we will take them to the beach for the weekend here soon. They would be happy with that.
Disney World next year maybe!

I think too that everyone will miss Lemoyne, but they wont miss the small yard and close neighbors… Livi and Hailey are always complaining about that. They hate having to be quiet because they are disturbing the neighbors. They hate that the yard is so small they can’t have a swing set or pool or anything. I am also concerned that Hailey has to switch therapists again. We are definitely going to have to find her a private speech therapists. I am concerned that although she is making progress that if it isn’t stepped up a notch that she will end up being in the special education classes once she starts school. Not that she needs special ed. I am only concerned because of her speech. She is actually very very smart (almost too smart for her age) but if the teacher can’t understand what she is saying I am afraid that they will just plunk her into a special class. So we definitely need to look into that for her. I think that Riley will be just fine, and not have any speech problems. He definitely has a few words that he says very well for a two year old. NO being one of them.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am an avid animal lover and nine times out of ten would be more willing to break for a stray dog or cat then an actual human. So this story about the lab puppy shot in Carlisle completely outrages me. Click here to read the story What I am getting from the news is that a lab puppy was in an outside kennel and someone shot him, in the chest. The actualy news story made me tear up a little.. The owner said "When I looked out the window. I just saw her laying there in a pool of blood and my Dalmatian sitting beside her trying to give some help, keeping her company in her last minutes, it's awful." If that statement doesn't make you cry then I can't imagine that you have feelings at all.. Everyone always says what kind of monster kills children, and I agree but on that same note what kind of monster can shoot an 18 month old puppy.. a puppy.. and what makes me even more angry is that if the person who did it is found, they will likely get minimal to no jail time..

Just a phase?

My oldest Olivia is 6 years old.. and lastely she cries about everything. She cries if she doesn't get her own way, has to go to bed, even something as simple as she can't go to the bathroom right away because someone is in there. I am not sure if this is just a phase or what? I don't mind her crying but it has gotten ridiculous.. and then she cries more because her sister tells her she is a cry baby! Her 4 year old sister I might add.
I am hoping that she eventually grows out of this since first grade is right around the corner.
Also, my kids have been fighting like crazy lately. And if there is ever a lull in the fighting one of them just HAS to nitpick on another to get things all stirred up. I think that is what makes me even more crazy..

The one above is a really cool picture of Harrisburg's Walnut Street walking bridge.. It has a ton of historical value but I will save you from having to listen to it. I think its cool, most others don't.

below is a pic of the kids in Progress Fire Companies tower truck.. they always give rides up and down at Pump Primers.. This was Rileys first year up and he loved it..

A few Pump Primer pictures of actual firetrucks.. these pics are really cool!

Here are some pics of the kids at Pump Primers trying to put out fake fire with a real fire hose. Riley was so excited when he was done that he ran over and gave me a big thumbs up!

Random kid pics!
My little angels.. and their dad.. fast asleep!

Wow

So the last few days have been extremely crazy, but who would expect less from the Pratt family? Work has been pretty much monopolizing my time these past few days for some reason the real estate business has been picking up lately, or else I am the only one who is busy. This morning was a horrible morning. I woke up at 2 am to Olivia throwing up sick all over my bed, the bathroom floor, you name it.. I can't say it made me happy, I mean who would be happy about cleaning up puke at 2 am.. but I felt bad that she didn't feel good.
She was still sick first thing this morning so I called my office and told them I would be in late, then let her go back to sleep. So I got up and attempted to get a few minor chores done around the house. In the meantime.. I got a parking ticket, I am always gone when the street cleaner comes through.. but not today.
So then, Livi started feeling better and I got to go into work. I had so much to do it wasn't funny. I was already having a bad day and everything just seemed to get worse as the day wore on. Hopefully tonight I can go home, play with the kids and go to bed early.. I have some serious sleep catching up on to do.

Monday.. again

The weekend was fairly uneventful, yet extremely busy all in the same. Friday night we just kind of chilled at home.. Although we did get a call from the house guy who said that if the other couple didn't respond to the counter offer by Monday then the house was ours. Either way we could get it but he was just saying that if they didn't respond then we 100% got it. So we are super super excited about that.
Saturday morning we got up and headed down to Harrisburgs water front for Pump Primers. Basically it is a huge parade/fire truck meeting place. The trucks range from antique to new and then shoot (pump) water into the river.. It is really nice really cool and the kids liked it. So we spent the morning doing that, then headed back to the house for a nice cool afternoon nap in the air conditioning. It was awesome. I love afternoon naps.
Saturday night the kids stayed with my mom and D and I met some friends downtown for drinks. It was nice to just sit and socialize with adults for a change. We then caught the late showing of War of the Worlds. I liked it well enough, it had good special effects and obviously the whole concept was completely terrifying but overall.. I was not super impressed. It just seems to me that anytime they try to remake a completely excellent book, it turns out wrong. But I would still recommend that others go see it.. It was worth the 8.00.
Sunday morning was all about the cleaning in our house. I really do hate to clean, but love the way that it looks when you are finished. So, we round up the whole family and all work together to get it done faster.

Here is a really funny.. out of the mouths of babes comment. On sunday Olivia ask me if they could swim in the baby pool later on. I replied with my normal "we'll see" answer.. She just looked at me, put her hands on her hips and replied "boy, arent your pants going to be on fire later!"... I never laughed so hard.. It was cute, yet very mouthy.. She also immediately ran after she said it.. showing me that she new it was out of line.

D's niece had a b'day party on Sunday afternoon so we made a quick stop there for some banana birthday cake and then headed home because D's friend and his wife whom he graduated with at the fire academy were coming up for a late supper. While we were getting the back deck and yard ready for the cook out Hailey feel up the steps (she is getting really good at that) and smacked her cheek bone off the back steps. It immediately swelled, turned black and blue and hurt like crazy. We put ice on it and made some calls. I thought for sure we would be heading to the emergency room again.. but it seemed to be better later that night. She is so much like me in that she is extrememly clutzy.. I am the queen of clutz and she is the princess...

D's friends were great. We had a great time just chilling on the deck talking until the wee hours of the night. Good food, great people.. thats what everyone should have all the time.
I found this on another "mommy" blog.. called Mommyhood
I thought it was hilarious so I had to post it here.. Check out her blog for some other cool stuff.

My Mother taught me LOGIC..."If you fall off that swing and break your neck, you can't go to the store with me."
My Mother taught me MEDICINE..."If you don't stop crossing your eyes, they're going to freeze that way."
My Mother taught me TO THINK AHEAD..."If you don't pass your spelling test, you'll never get a good job!" My Mother taught me ESP..."Put your sweater on; don't you think that I know when you're cold?"
My Mother taught me TO MEET A CHALLENGE..."What were you thinking? Answer me when I talk to you...Don't talk back to me!"
My Mother taught me HUMOR..."When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don't come running to me."
My Mother taught me how to BECOME AN ADULT..."If you don't eat your vegetables, you'll never grow up.
My mother taught me about GENETICS..."You are just like your father!"
My mother taught me about my ROOTS..."Do you think you were born in a barn?"
My mother taught me about the WISDOM of AGE..."When you get to be my age, you will understand."
My mother taught me about ANTICIPATION..."Just wait until your father gets home."
My mother taught me about RECEIVING...You are going to get it when we get home.
and my all time favorite thing - JUSTICE..."One day you will have kids, and I hope they turn out just like YOU..then you'll see what it's like."

How completely true is all that.. Sounds just like my mom..

Good news? Bad news?

Ok, so when I checked our bank account this morning I was surprised to see that our deposit check for the 'farmette' we are looking at was cashed. D immediately called them to see if that meant that we got the house ( there is still one other person bidding against us) He said that if they don't respond by Monday then we have it. Which is super exciting. The only not so exciting thing, is that we have no money for the week. But thats the way it goes. We should be used to juggling bills, we never have any money.
We also are being given a coach off freecycle.org which could be the coolest site ever. I think that I have seriously gotten rid of everything ever through that site.. and found a couple really cool things too. So, hopefully (and everyone cross your fingers) we will be moving into our new FARM in a couple weeks. I am super excited. If we don't get it, at least we will have money this week.. so its a win win situation.

I watch the movie The Jacket last night. You know Adrian Brody, Keira Knightly. I still haven't decided if I liked it or not. It was definitely good and kept my attention, even on the edge of my seat sometimes. But the ending was bizarre and I am still not sure exactly what happened to him. But over all it was good. Click on the link above so read the summary of what its about.

This weekend will prove to be low key if only because we now have no money. I am still planning on getting out with friends on Saturday night.. Cheaply but still.

Almost a trip to the emergency room

After all the injuries that this family has been having lately I am seriously waiting for a social worker to come knocking on my door inquiring about whether or not I have been abusing my children.. last night around 3 am or so we heard a loud thump followed by crying. I immediately woke up and knew someone had fallen out of bed. D got up and went running out to Riley. I could hear him trying to comfort him.. when he said in a dead set serious voice.. You had better come here.
Honestly I didn't even know that my bottom could work that fast at that time of morning. I ran to his room and there was blood everywhere.. On the sheets, floor etc. We immediately got him cleaned up and checked out the damage. It seems that he fell out of bed onto the floor, face first. He bite through his lip pretty good but otherwise there was no major damage.. Thank god there was no broken bones. His lip is still swollen a little (it was in the same spot that he just had stitched).. but he seems in good spirits here this evening, considering all I have been doing is yelling at him to stay out of everything. He seems to be getting into everything lately .. Last Friday night I was upstairs putting laundry away, he was being really quiet downstairs so I went down stairs to check on him. He was sitting in the middle of the floor in the kitchen surronded by broken eggs. When I walked in I know I had this look of complete anger mixed with complete and udder hopelessness.. he looked at me as if to say.. I was just making something to eat. Have you ever tried to clean up eggs off a hardwood floor.. or any floor for that matter.. It took me almost a whole roll of paper towels and scrub brush.. It was horrible.

Finallyl Thursday!

Ok, so its technically only been a three day work week so far, but it seems like everything is running on hyper speed this week.
Work is busy, home is busy.. everything is busy. We were out on our deck last night watching the trees being cut down. They are cutting down every tree that blocks our view of the road, bank etc.. which really sucks. Now, I know that we don't own that property and the owner is doing what he has to do, but it still stinks.

This morning we woke up to the terrible news about the terriost attacks in London. Wow.. I know that when it doens't hit at home the news is less shocking but still. When I got to work there was a letter from the NAI president saying that they have been in contact with our office in London and everyone is ok and accounted for. I think that made it hit home a little more. Also, D called me just a little bit ago and said that work just called him and ask him if he would be interested in working 1/2 a shift. They just like to have more bodies around just in case. That makes me nervous. I already get nervous every time he goes to work.. considering what he does, not I have to worry about terriosts attacks too. It all very unnerving..

Isn't it funny

Isn't it funny how when you tell a child not to do something, it is the first thing they do.. But when you tell a child to do something, they don't do it..
This is the problem we are facing in the Pratt household right now. I think if we could get everyone to figure this whole thing out.. then things would run much more smoothly....

Independence Day!

This weekend was jam packed with everything. It seems like I didn't get to bed before midnight any night.. and was constantly on the go. The bright side... it was fun.. the downside.. it went way to fast.
Friday night the kids and I went to a a party at a friend on my mom's. It was tons of fun! There was food, and beer.. fireworks.. the kids had tons of room to run around and were very happy that they 'finally got to play in the country' as olivia put it. the kids were beat by the time we made it home and slept in on Saturday morning for me. I mean they actually slept in past 8 am.. it is the first time in a long time.
Saturday we had some last minute picnic shopping to do, then a meeting about our offer on the farmhouse at 2:30. I think that I might have liked the property the second time even better then I did the first. We were told we would know in 10 days or so, so cross your fingers.
Saturday night a work friend of D's was up from DC on vacation at HersheyPark.. So we got together with them and had dinner at the Red Robin in Hershey. I was vastly disappointed.. My food was good but the others weren't.. and the service was horrible. So FYI.. don't go to the red robin in Hershey.. hit the one in mechanicsburg instead.
Saturday night we went down to front street in Harrisburg.. Music Fest was going on. It was basically the same old same old.. food, games, rides, music.. We stayed for 30 minutes or so.. then left.. I wasn't impressed.
Sunday D worked, again, so I spent the day cleaning and doing yard work to prepare for the big picnic on Sunday night. The kids swam a bit.. and then the unthinkable happened.. It involved the pool and my cell phone.. and it ended with the demise of my ever trustable Nokia. Thankfully my mom (thank you again) had the same phone at one point, and just gave me hers.. so there was no money involved. I was very happy about that.. I did lose about 5 or so of my numbers.. which irritated me.. but what can you do?
Monday was all about preparing for the big picnic.. we made TONS of food, had soda, beer you name it.. and everything turned out great.. Everyone had a great time, and my friend Dave (whom I haven't seen since HS) stopped by.. it was great..
The fireworks in Harrisburg were amazing.. the kids loved them..
Funny baby story. Riley was sitting on the grass, just being very good before the fireworks started. There was this couple sitting in front of us with a maybe 1 year old little girl.. Well the little girl kept smiling at Riley, so he would wave.. they were completely flirting.. It was so cute..
So about 5 minutes after this whole ritual, the little girl reached over and kissed him on the cheek.. he immediately began yelling for me to look and kept pointing at his cheek.. It was the most adorable thing ever.. My baby boy, a heartbreaker already..
So, later on that evening during the fireworks he went over to her and gave her a hug.. I was impressed and saddened.. Saddened because he usually wipes my kissses off.. but I suppose thats how boys are with their mothers..

Things have been fairly quiet around the household.. the kids have actually been behaving, for the most part, and have taken this weird fascination with throwing things off our back balcony. So everyday I go down into the yard and pick up the random shoes, toys, cleaning supplies etc.. that they have thrown off. I then go into the house and ask them who did.. Of course none of them know and all point their fingers at everyone else. Interesting how that works out...

So the other day Olivia and I were in the car driving when we heard a commercial for SWAN which is the PA statewide adoption program. She actually ask me this.. in these exact words..
"mom, can we get another kid"
I almost wrecked the car.. I ask her if she was kidding.. of course she wasn't. She said its because "I am bored with these other two"
It was one of the funniest things I have ever heard her say.. I laughed so hard I almost cried.

On another note Riley has taken a great liking to the song "Since you've been gone" by Kelly Clarkson. If you could ever hear him sing it you would laugh so hard.. It is adorable.. He has most of the words down and sings really loudly..

I couldn't resist

Jeff Foxworthy on PA...

If you consider it a sport to sit in a treestand all day long with a bow or a gun just to put food in your freezer.. you might live in Pennsylvania.

If you're proud that your region makes the national news 96 nights each year because Bradford is the coldest spot in the nation, you might live in Pennsylvania.

If your local Dairy Queen is closed from November through March, you might live in Pennsylvania.

If you instinctively walk like a penguin for five months out of the year, you might live in Pennsylvania.

If someone in a store offers you assistance, and they don't work there, you might live in Pennsylvania cause you're all so damn friendly.

If your dad's suntan stops at a line curving around the middle of his forehead, cause he wears a hardhat you might live in Pennsylvania.

If you have worn shorts, sunglasses and a parka at the same time, you might live in Pennsylvania.

If your town has an equal number of bars and churches, or if you are in church and your priest or minister asks you to pray for the STEELERS , and wants to get you all home for 1 p.m. kickoff, you might live in Pennsylvania.

If you have had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you might live in Pennsylvania

Ok.. so some of them were cheesy.. I thought that they were moderately funny.. and mostly true.
