This blog is a brief glimpse into the crazy and sometimes abnoraml world of my family.

Wow.. have things been completely and absolutely crazy lately...
Wednesday night I was sitting watching the absolutely phenomenal recap of Lost when someone knocked at my door.. I immediately thought to myself who would possibly be knocking on my door at 8:30 at night. Hailey was already sleeping, I had all the lights off and was attempting to get the other two rugrats settled.
So I went to the door, crusty sweats and all, and was greeted by a constable and three armed police officers. It was a little scary. My immediate reaction was"what did I do wrong" but here they were only looking for someone that had lived in our house previously. Scared the crap out of me. Then because I kept telling Riley to shut the big door (so tiller wouldn't bark) the constable was giving me a hard time, thinking that I was potnetially harboring this fugitive guy. It was a little imtimidating, but I laughed about it later..
Today I had lunch with a old co-worker that I hadn't seen in years. We went downtown to Miyako Sushi Bar on 2nd Street in Harrisburg . I used to hate even the thought of sushi, until I actually tried it.. It is so good. I had the shrimp tempura roll and a coke. I was so stuffed when I left I could barely walk. Also it was good to see by old friend.. she hasn't changed a bit and we had a blast.

This weekend is supposed to bring with it the Washington Nationals game tomorrow night. We will see if we actually ever make it there or not. There always seems to be an issue. Hoepfully the weather will stay nice, I am looking forward to going to the flea market on Sunday and see how many cool new antiques I can find.

Nothing crazy has happened with the little ones lately. Hailey has once again moved all her stuff into Riley's room and all Riley's stuff into her room. She is pretty much dead set on having a bed room to herself. It's obviously not ever going to happen, at least not without a bigger house. So, she and I had a heart to heart and moved all her stuff back into her room. Soccer game tomorrow. Wish us luck!

Well, we have now determined just how 'fiesty' Hailey really is. D and the kids tagged along to soccer practice last night to watch 'soccer coach Mary' in action. They were just off to the side of the field playing with a soccer ball with these two other little kids. the story that livi and D told me is that these two kids were making fun of Riley because of his name (And just to clarify Riley is NOT a girls name.

RILEY
Gender: Masculine Usage: English Pronounced: RIE-lee
From a surname which was originally derived from a place name meaning "rye clearing" in Old English.

That is what Riley means. Notice how it says Gender MASCULINE!)

Ok so anyway these kids were making fun of Riley's name. Riley's couldn't care less he's a baby.. but livi was visibily upset.. shes kind of sensitive. So, she went and told her dad. Hailey didn't wait for her dad though. She walked over the the one little boy. Pushed him with both hands and with one hand on her hip and one finger pointed at the boy she told him to "leave her little brother alone or she was going to..." She never did get to finish because D intervened. I assume she probably would have used a work that starts with 'a' and ends with 's' that comes out of her mouth way to often. (Don't look at me, I watch my mouth around the kids)
So, it seems that little red headed 28 lb Hailey is quite the fighter.. (I knew that she was with her sister, I just assumed she wouldn't be with people she didn't know)
Who knew?

So this is my slightly abnormal 14 year old brother, I know he weird.. we all know. This is what kids in small towns in the middle of no where do for fun. Play on little pink tricycle... I know most people think that a town can't possibly be that boring for a teenage boy to want to play on a tricycle. If you think that then obviously you have never been to Thompsontown, which is where my mom lives. There might be a bigger amish population then anyone else.. and when jeff foxworthy tells his 'you might be a redneck' jokes.. they all apply to there..

This one I had to post, just to prove to olivia that I would. I know I said that they were good at my moms.. well they almost were. This is Olivia throwing one of her 'I am 6 years old and should be my own boss' temper tantrums. I told her I was going to take a pic so everyone could see how she acted.. she said to me 'you wouldn't'... so of course, I had too... See, Olivia see how silly you look when you throw a fit...

This is him attempting to color on my moms table. Don't worry we stopped him in time. But doesn't he look adorable with his summer haircut? They were good at my moms yesterday. I was surprised..

Riley busting a move

I took this picture at my moms on Sunday.. He was dancing to something on TV. He seriously looks like he is 'getting down' its hilarious.

Things have been moving so fast lately. I have barely had time breathe more or less post. Work has been crazy and so has everything else. Still no word on what we are doing about what we are now referring to as the "Tiller situation". Next week is my wedding anniversary.. 6 years we have been married. Can you believe that? Most days I can't. Olivia is still sick, she talks like a smurf... Hmm. smurfs. She doesn't even know what the smurfs are. I was desperately trying to find some 'smurf' related items on line yesterday to show her what I meant. I found some pics, but no sounds... Yesterday evening we actually had company to our house for dinner, a civilized adult sit down dinner. It has been the first time in a long time we have had one of them. I made stuffed shells and we even had wine. The kids were there, but they were so well behaved. It was a great night. Adult conversation, wine and good kids.. There are times it doens't get any better than that.

Friday, April 22, 2005

I haven't really had a ton of time to post since this whole Tiller thing. I have been working, taking care of Olivia (since her throat is still sore) and trying to sort out this whole Tiller thing. It seems that my aunt now has an infection in her bite that is requiring her to possibly get surgery. So, now more then ever I feel obligated to do something about this Tiller situation. It is breaking my heart. Its like he knows that something is wrong . He has been cuddly and following us around the house. It is seriously killing me. How do you make a decision like this, but for the sake of everyone I think it is best. So honestly I am in no mood to talk about anything funny or crazy.

Wednesday, April 20, 2005

Today I have been faced with one of the most diffucult decision I have ever made in my life. My aunt went to get Olivias medicine this morning. She brought it in the door and all was well. I never imagined there would be a problem with the dogs, she has been around them a million times. In fact when I was in the hospital last years she stayed with the kids and the dogs overnight, because D was away at the academy. So tiller walked over to her.. then just bit her. No growling, no barking, no warning, nothing. I am so distraught. I have literally been crying for the majority of the day trying to figure out how to handle it. Since this morning he has been fine with all of us, as he always is, but everytime I pet him I can't help but think 'is he going to bite me too, would he ever bite me?' So, I talked to the vet and made all the necessary arrangements to have him put to sleep. Its not like this is his first sign of agressive behavior. We have been leary of letting him around people recently because he has been over agressive. As a parent, I can't take the chance of him biting one of the kids. I know that I am making the right decision, but deep down it just feels like I am betraying him. He has been snuggling up to me all day, its almost like he knows he did something wrong. D thinks that I am overreacting and that everything will work out ok.. I am not sure I want to take that chance. Its really hard. We have had tiller since he was a puppy.. almost 7 years now..
So I will let everyone know how it pans out... the plan is for him to go to the vets office, and doggy heaven tomorrow. Is there a way to make this any easier. I don't think there is.. As a child I never had to deal with the loss of a pet because i never had one. Rough stuff, on top of this whole tonsil thing. She is doing ok, but running fever which isn't such a good sign..

Tonsil success!

Well, the tonsil surgery seems to have been a success.. Right now she is in bed 'relaxing' ... she hasn't ask for any pain meds or anything.. she has been eating and drinking. So hopefully this is all working out ok.
I always feel horrible when my kids are sick.. or hurting, I suppose thats just the mother coming out in me. So today when she woke up in the recovery room I felt horrible for her. I am very happy that she seems to be feeling OK..
Why is it that when my kids throw up I have a natural reaction to put my hands under their mouths to catch it? SERIOUSLY!!!! it is horrible and I hate throw up anyway.. so whats the deal.. maybe I just dont want them throwing up all over themselves, or maybe I am a little bit of a retard.. who knows.
So the Hailey and Riley stayed at my moms last night. I always enjoy it when they can keep someone else up for the night.. but my mom said other then fighting, they were really good.
So all is well in our household.. for now... (insert evil music here)

How fast was that?

The weekend went so fast..so fast, that I barely got anything done. Some yard work and a few movies.. a walk and a cookout, a few loads of laundry and the entire downstairs cleaned.. thats about it.. and to me, thats not a lot.
the kids enjoyed being outside the majority of the weekend and you could tell by the color of the brown tainted bathwater on Sunday night. Riley is doing so much better with the whole potty thing. On Sunday he got so excited because he had to pee that he was dancing around on the front porch and then proceeded to take his clothes off before I could even get him inside.
Tomorrow Olivia gets her Tonsils out.. she is not very happy about and has been crying everytime someone mentions it. I feel bad for her but it is for the best. On Saturday she and Hailey were fighting.. big surprise there.. when Hailey just punched her right in the mouth. .. split her lip open, blood everywhere. I will say that for Hailey being the middle child, yet the smallest of the three, she is definitley the biggest fight cat.
On Saturday night I watched Anchorman.. which was so super funny. Not as funny as Old School, but it was close.
Then when the kids finally went to sleep I watch The Grudge.. for those of you that know me, I love love scary movies. The last zillion scary movies I have seen I was very very disappointed in. The Grudge was the same. There was no plot, no story line, no ending.. was I scared? yes, but still. At the end I couldn't help but thinking "where's the rest of the movie". ... So, although I scared myself silly.. turned all the lights on to go upstairs and made the dog go with me to the bathroom.. the movie was still bad.
I am really looking forward to a good scary movie. I heard the Ring 2 was scary, so we will see. Amityville Horror got horrible reviews, the original was super scary, in fact I watched it again on Sat. afternnon. Hopefully Ryan Reynolds can live up to the scary factor in the sequel.
I will let everyone know how livi did tomorrow!

Desert island?

A co-worker recently ask me what food I would take if I were going to be stranded on a desert island? Basically I didnt even have to think about that one.. Pepsi.. I think that I could live without things like Wendy's chicken strips and Chocolate.. but theres no way I could live without Pepsi..
She also then was telling me about her Rhapsody blog.. Rhapsody is an subscription music service she is a fanatic about. So someone on another blog she reads started talking about what one song would you take on a desert island with you. She, being the great minded thinker that she is.. but some thought into it. I, being the simple (ok sometimes I am a little complicated) didn't put much thought into it at all. I said that it would have to be upbeat and catchy, something that I wouldn't get sick of hearing over and over again. So it might be this really cool Muppets song she found called "Mahna Mahna" (maybe thats not how you spell it) but it might be the new Will Smith song called "Switch" which is super super catchy... and fantastic (for a dance song by Will Smith) So normally that is not my type of music.. but it is good.. and I could find myself listening to it over and over again.
I also got ask (yes, we actually did get some work done) what super power would I want. Most people said Flying.. which would be cool, but I think that i would want to be like Rebecca Roman-Stamos (Is she still going by Stamos?) in X-men 2... She played Mystique this really cool x-men who could change shapes.. Wouldn't that be the coolest super powers.. I mean I would like to think that I already have some super powers.. the super sonic hearing.. the eyes in the back of my head.. the mom intuition. All those are pretty good super powers for now..

TP anyone?

I am not quite sure what it is about toilet paper and my house, but it seems that I am constantly taking the empty roll off and putting the new one on. I, of course am the only one that ever changes it... I don't hide the tp, it is accessible to everyone, I am just the only one who likes to have the tp on the holder. But at my house I am beginning to believe that there is a tp monster that is constantly eating our tp. I think that everytime I walk into the bathroom, the tp is empty. I know that occasionally Riley will take the end of the tp and run.. causing a huge tp mess all over. or other times he will take and unwind the entire roll onto the floor, causing a huge pile up. I am just not sure where all of it is going. And trust me I am not exaggerating on this at all.. we got through at least 24 rolls every two weeks. We only have four people that use the potty right now. (potty.. thats such a mom word) It like the socks that get lost in the dryer.. I have a whole basket full of socks with no matches. I mean obviously they had matches at one point in time, so where did they go? Did anyone ever see the Sprint commercial with the little sock man? The woman catches him stealing the socks from the dryer and putting them down his pants? I think that little man lives in my house.. along with the tp man..

Old... who me?

So today Olivia and I ran to Target to take back my favorite boots in the whole world because they were recalled.. yes boots recalled.. if you can believe that one. Basically they were recalled because the heel falls off.. I wore mine for months knowing that they were recalled but when I wore them the other day the heel started to get loose so I figured I better get my money back before I hurt myself. So anyway, we are standing at the return counter. I love Target not only because they have really cheap, really cool stuff but because returns and exchanges are so super super easy there. They have a whole section just for them. The lady at the counter ask me for my drivers license.. Olivia glances at the picture as I got it out. She looked at me and looked at my picture, she then said to me "Gee mom, I didn't think you were that old. " Great.. so now my 6 year old, who a few years ago thought I was the greatest thing since sliced bread, now thinks I am old. That makes me feel even older then I actually am.

C IS for Cookie
Posted by Hello
Ok, so I just read that Sesame Street is changing the image of Cookie Monster. The article on CNN.com said that he 'is a bad role model for children who in todays culture should be exercising and eating healthy' or something along those lines. He even has a new song.. Instead of the usual "C is for cookie" that we all know and love.. the new song is "A cookie is a sometimes food." Are you kidding me? seriously. I watched Cookie Monster when I was little and although I am no Kate Moss, I faired out pretty well. My children also watch Cookie moster religiously but for some reason it doesn't make then eat ands smash cookies into their mouths. So I am not quite sure what this is all about. Isn't it about time that parents start to take resposibility for thier childrens actions? If my kids are heavy, then guess what.. its my fault. Instead of letting your children sit infront of the tv eating cookies all day, turn the Tv off and make them run laps around your house... then give them carrots for snack. it bothers me that todays society feels the need to play the blame game. Society has long been blaming video games, music, violent Tv shows.. but now we are turning on poor Cookie monster too... hmmm.. makes me want to eat a cookie. LOL

Mess, Mess, Mess

Ok, so although the majority of the evening has been good.. smooth sailing dinner, smooth sailing bath, (although Riley did get back into the shower with his sister after he was dried off and completely dressed).. so when snack time came around I just assumed that all would go well... boy was I wrong. Again (these kids never cease to prove me wrong do they) so basically it all started when Hailey spilled all but tinyest drop of an almost full gallon of milk all over the kitchen floor. Then Riley and Hailey decided to fight over an entire bowl full of popcorn in the living room proceeding to spill the entire bowl all over the floor. I, of course was still in the kitchen cleaning up the milk. So then Riley, who wasn't even eating popcorn but instead eating chocolate chip granola bars spit an entire mouthful of granola bar all over Haileys head. So normally they say not to cry over spilled milk, but I was ready too. I was tired and cranky and had laundry and a million other things to do, I just wanted to sit down and relax. The kids could tell I was angry.. I didn't yell, I didn't say a word.. the look was enough. They all went to bed, Riley went to the couch and I didn't hear a word the rest of the night.
Obviously the psycho look works on small children

WOO HOO! Go Cheetahs!

Well! Soccer went extremely well considering that I have neither played soccer, coached soccer or even dealt with 12 5 year olds all at the same time. Luckily for me D and my brother were there to help out with the kids. We played some games, tried to get a grip on scoring and the positions, as much as possible with 5 years olds. We only had two kids cry and one fight, so I would like to think that I have done well. I figure by the end of the year I should be a seasoned soccer coach! Woo Hoo! and our team name is officially the cheetahs.. although we got a ton of answers to that question. One kid thought we should be the 'agressors' one thought the 'hot wheels' and the list goes on. I actually even got the name the 'red sox' until I explained that the red sox are already a baseball team and we wear black socks. So they decided that wasn't such a good name. Olivia was very good at soccer and I think that she likes her team alot. Our first game is on Saturday, that ought to be very very interesting!

So much to do.. so little time..

So last week I had D start ripping out all the horribly overgrown, left to rot, landscaping from in front of the house. He tore down he fence that created a horribly overgrown vine barrier between our house and the neighbors, then on Saturday morning bright and early we got up and proceded to start the rest. It is such a small piece of ground I said.. maybe only 12 ft X 6 ft if even that.. We thought we would have it done in no time. BOY.. was I wrong. we worked until late Saturday night, all day Sunday and just finished putting the last of the grass seed down last night around 10pm.. I am so excited though to see what it is going to look like when the grass is all grown and green. I promised though that the next project that I think is no big deal and we start, that I will evaluate it and see if we are getting ourselves in over our heads, if we are we'll hire someone regardless of how absloutely lazy that makes me feel. I always figured, why hire someone to do something I can do myself, right?
The kids enjoyed the landscaping project playing in the wet dirt for the majority of the weekend. On sunday they were actually burying themselves in the dirt.. they were so dirty that they all looked like they were growing black hair. It was hilarious.
I got an email today from an old friend from HS.. can you believe that I actually still keep in touch with people from HS? I think that it is so great that even though people move on with their lives that they don't forget their old friends. So she and her husband are moving from Maine to Georgia, talk about shell shock. thats like moving to a foreign country.
Riley was up the majority of the night last night, he kept rubbing his eyes and crying. Not sure exactly what the problem was, though I suspect that allergies was the problem. Soem Benadryl cleared it right up and he eventually and finally went to sleep.
Tonight is our first, not going to rain, soccer practice! I am excited to see how the kids are going to be. Have no fear Soccer Coach Mary is here!

Rain Rain Go Away

Well, I finally got my big chance to put all my newly learned soccer coaching skills to use.. when WHAM! it started to pour. So actually what happened was we got there and there was a ton of confusion as to who was actually on my team.. and then it turned out that only five kids were actually there. So I have a small chat with the parents, hand out papers (by now it is starting to rain). D goes out and tries to set the kids up in a drill, but some parents are already calling their kids back underneath umbrellas. When it was all said and done we were all soaked.. my kids being the worst because being the horrible mother that I am I let them play in the rain. So we didn't have soccer anyway. Wasted and completely unorganized trip. Oh well.. Monday night is our first official practice and I can only pray and hope that it gets better. We'll see. No big plans for the weeknd, although I am hoping to get the rest of the weeds and crap ripped out in front of the house so I can plant grass next weekend. We'll see, I just hope the weather holds up!

Spring FINALLY!

Well.. it seems that spring is finally here, and boy is it about time. We took a walk to our local park last night (my first time) and it was packed. I bet there were thirty kids there, which was nice because the girls found friends, and Riley was playing with a little girl. It really was nice. although Hailey did fall off the monkey bars, Riley got ran over by a little girl swinging (his fault he walked right in front of her) and then Hailey fell again while running down the hill. She was fine until she realized that her hand was bleeding.. then all hell broke loose. You could have thought that her arm was going to fall off she was crying so loud. I was trying not to chuckle but it was really cute..

I am just having one of those weeks.. D lost his wedding ring.. (again) I am truly beginning to think there is something to that. It just bothers me, maybe I am just being a petty woman but still. I just feel out of synch this week. Ever have one of those, like something just isn't right.
Not sure what it is yet. Hopefully I snap out of it soon, I am tired of being off key!

Spit

As a mother, three times over, there are a ton of things that I have come to deal with. Puke, Poop, dirt you name it..
There are a few things that I can't deal with. Like a child spitting something into my hand that they don't like. I mean I don't freak out and scream or anything but seriously it just grosses me out. Last night at supper Hailey was eating a grilled hotdog. She obviously didn't like it and proceeded to take my hand and spit it out into it. Now, honestly I dont know if there is anything worse then a chewed up hotdog to make your stomach turn. I definitey puked in my mouth a little.

The Pope?

So how do you explain to a six year old who the Pope is? I mean don't get me wrong, we are not complete atheists. Olivia has gone to church (on all major holidays) and even attended preschool at our local church. But we aren't catholic and honestly I am not sure how to even explain to myself who the Pope is? So, the conversation started like this. We were on the way home from visiting my mother. They don't get to see her as much since we moved, so it was a nice visit. On the way home we passed a flag at half mast. She ask me why the flag was down like that. I explained that when someone dies that is what they do. We have had the death talk before so she is fairly certain that when you die she knows that you go to heaven. So, I tried to explain to her about the church and how the Pope was in charge etc..etc.. It seemed to be really complicated to her, she just kind of gave me that kid look like 'What the hell are you talking about'. So I tried to simplify it.. again I got the quizzical look. Eventaully she asked me " So, he is the president of the church?" Exactly I stated with a small grin. Kids never cease to amaze me. Its funny how we take everything in life and make it crazy and complicated. Kids just have a way of making it all simple again.

Soccer Mom Extraordinaire

So tonight was supposed to be me and Livis big soccer debut! But sadly enough I just got an email and all the fields are closed due to mud! Mud?!? are you kidding.. its soccer, and little kids love the mud so whats the problem. They said they don't want the fields all ripped up.. are you kidding, they are SOCCER fields aren't they supposed to be ripped up? Guess not. So, I was all in coach mary mode and now I will have to just wait until Thursday to play all the really cool soccer drills that I got from the website of the American Youth Soccer Association (http://soccer.org/) They have a ton of really cool things and drills that even inexperienced, never played soccer a day in yoru life, coaches like me can do.. I am so excited. I can't wait till Thursday!

Old People ....LOL

Ok.. so maybe I shouldnt generalize about old people.. I am not exactly 'young' myself anymore and am only getting older. But I heard a completely hilarious story about something an old guy said to him wife. The husband was sick, he wouldn't go to the hospital.. the wife called the ambulance. As he was giving the EMT's a hard time about all of this he turned to his wife and said. "If I would have killed you the first time I thought about it, I would have been out of jail by now!" OMG! Isn't that the most hilarious thing ever. I can only hope that when D and I grow old that we can still come up with witty lines like this to tell each other.

On another note the weekend was short and dull, nothing new and exciting to report. I spent the entire morning on Sunday cleaning the girls room. I mean we went through toys, drawers, you name it. Their room was so nice and clean for the first 10 minutes after I cleaned it. Then they decided to play and the rest is history. It took them a shorter time to re-destroy the room then it did for me to actually clean it.

The 12 Hours from hell

Literally the last 12 hours have been complete hell. It all started last night when I picked the kids up. They were bad.. big shocker there and were running all over the place. I was already fed up. I went home and ordered pizza. We went through our normal routine, taking coats, shoes etc off... (trust me with three kids that is not as easy as it sounds) If I let them do it themselves the shoes end up in different places, the coats are on the floor etc.
So I call the dogs. Bandit runs down but no Tiller. So I go upstairs to check on him.. He is standing at the top of the steps whining... hes scared to come down. Scared?? how can a 200 lb dog be scared of anything... well he is. So I just figure that when he has to pee bad enough, he will come down. So now its been about an hour since I ordered the pizza. We are all starving and wondering where it is. Another 1/2 an hour goes by.. no pizza. By now, I am just pissed.. hungary and pissed which isn't a very good conbination to be. The kids were hungary so they were whining and grouchy which didn't add to my pissed off state. When the pizza guy finally gets there the first thing out of my mouth was " you do know I am not paying for this right" so then I get this big song and dance about how he can't authorize that.. I wanted to know who could. So I made him stand there any wait while I called the pizza shop. They told me I had to pay him, but that they were sending me a voucher for a free pizza. I said you had better be. So we will see..
Around 10 or so I got everyone down and settled into bed, even riley was sleeping. BUT not for long. He was up all night.. he kept poking me on the cheek and saying, 'Turn the Tv on' to which I promptly replied "Not on your life!' Arounf 1:30 I had had enough and I turned it on. He just layed there and watched TV while I tried to sleep (with one eye open)
Around 330 he and everyone else was finally asleep again when I heard this noise. I immediately set up (mother instict) to find Tiller peeing on the floor in the hallway. I immediately yelled at him which prompted him to start to walk and pee at the same time.. So now I had this stream of giant dog pee across my entire bedroom. At 3:30 this morning I was mopping the floors and Riley was awake again.
Needless to say I forced Tiller to go out... and made Riley at least lay down (he never did go back to sleep) and I am pretty much running on empty today. Which can only make for an interesting April Fools Day
